CheatCodes - Reinvent yourself, The Watering Hole Strategy, and the truth about motivation

Reinvent Yourself.

"A lot can happen in just a few months.

- New body.

- New mindset.

- New money.

- New circle.

New everything."

It is entirely possible to reinvent yourself in a few months.

All it requires is sustained discipline.

I’ve seen alcoholics turn into CEO's.

I’ve seen school dropouts turn into lecturers.

I’ve seen homeless people turn into A-list actors.

Reinvention is always possible.

Lock in.

The Watering Hole - A Customer Acquisition Strategy

Having seen dozens of founders burn thousands, if not millions, on ineffective marketing campaigns I feel it's time that some guidance is shared on how to effectively acquire customers without breaking the bank.

Let me know if this sounds familiar.

  1. Write down a general target market.

  2. Create an ad.

  3. Dump money into Facebook & Instagram to promote the ad.

  4. No sales.

  5. Repeat until money is gone.

Truth is, this is the actual strategy of thousands of companies.

It's ineffective, expensive, and doesn't allow you to learn anything.

So what's the alternative?

The Watering Hole Strategy

If you wanted to find a ton of antelope, where would you look?

A watering hole.

Why?

Because it's where many of them congregate to feel safe and survive.

The same rule applies to customers.

How it works:

The concept is simple, find corners of the internet with a high concentration of your target customer and advertise there.

Here are some great places to look:

  • Subreddits: They are literally segmented by interest, it couldn't be easier.

  • Facebook Groups: These are tiny echo chambers of similar people. Great for B2C and some B2B.

  • LinkedIn Groups: The same as Facebook Groups except perfectly tailored for B2B audiences.

  • Slack Communities: More diverse but super easy to reach out to, and contact, potential leads.

  • Discord Servers: Similar to Slack communities with a younger audience. Perfect for specific niches.

All of these corners hold tight knit communities where people with similar interests can ask questions, share advice, discuss latest news, and so on. They are literal magnets for people with niche interests.

How do I advertise in "The Watering Hole?"

See this is more nuanced than just spam posting your advert. (This doesn't work btw, please don't do it.)

In these spots you need to add value:

  • Answer questions

  • Share interesting articles and reports.

  • Ask questions to facilitate discussions.

Only after you have built some degree of credibility can you begin to push your agenda and advertise.

So no, this isn't a pump and dump marketing scheme with overnight success, but it is a long term, sustainable source of leads that can yield truly loyal customers and die hard fanbases.

And the best part? Nobody is using them.

Except you.

The truth about motivation.

Make it stand out

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Yes, it's important to be motivated.

But it's even more important to follow that motivation with an actual plan.

And it's even more important to follow a plan that DOESN'T require you to be motivated to do it.

Truth is, motivation is transitory - not dependable.

Therefore by having a plan you can execute regardless of the motivation you feel, you can dependably progress daily.

Don't wait for the right day. Make the right plan, every day.
