CheatCodes: The reality of change, How to copy ideas and make millions, and how to get sh*t done without motivation
The reality of change and why patience is essential.
"Be patient. You're becoming a version of yourself you've never been before."
Change doesn't happen overnight and paints unfamiliar pictures.
Those pictures can be a little scary at first sight but once you accept that in order to grow beyond your previous limitations it's essential to change, they become normalised to you.
So be patient around the transition.
It'll take longer than you think, and look scarier than you thought, but the transition will be worth it.
How to copy ideas and make millions
I used this exact strategy to start Fanbytes, the business I sold for tens of millions at 27.
Here's how you can use it.
It's a very simple framework:
Find something that has worked before
Apply the same principle to a new, growing market with a twist.
I'll explain:
Find something that has worked before:
A great example is Spotify.
In 2006, Spotify saw the immense success that Netflix was having with subscriptions - so they decided to take the same principle of streaming subscriptions to the music industry.
Apply the same principle to a new, growing market - with a twist.
It was clear that consumer demand had a large appetite for unlimited streaming, in return for a monthly cost - so, instead of trying to reinvent the wheel, Spotify took this model and changed the industry. (With a couple twists.)
The "twists" are things we take for granted nowadays, but features like creating playlists and the queue feature were unique "twists" at the time. These twists were enough to stop Spotify from being called a "copycat" while still giving them the ability to rinse the same model.
The golden rule of all of this?
Originality is overrated. You don't have to be a visionary to make a lot of money in this world.
How to get sh*t done without motivation
Make it stand out
Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
This is from "Reframe your brain" by Scott Adams.
Most of us follow this rule (and fail):
"When I feel motivated I will do __X__"
When the truth is that motivation is fickle. Transitory. It doesn't stay and is incredibly inconsistent.
However, by reframing your view to follow the rule of:
I will do __X__ and then I will feel motivated
you'll notice an incredible uptick in your ability to get sh*t done.
This simple perspective shift was incredibly powerful for me and transformed my productivity levels - and I'm sure it can do the same for you too.
Keep Winning!
