Cheatcodes: Stop apologising, how to pick mentors, and why to stop listening to our bodies.
Why you should stop apologising:
"Stop apologising for who you’re becoming.
The world will adjust.
Be unreasonable."
How to pick the right mentors:
I once paid £13k for a business coach and it was the worst decision I ever made.
We had just passed £1m in revenue and I thought that we needed some help to get to next stage
I was introduced to this guy who had built a mega hospitality business and sold for 400m in late 90s.
I was desperate to learn anything from him, so on our first session I had my notebook in hand pumped to hear some gems.
4 minutes in, I knew I’d made a mistake.
He couldn’t relate to the problems that I faced.
This wasn’t his fault at all, he was just decades ahead of me and also in a different industry.
So here’s the lesson, pick your mentors wisely.
It can be sexy to read books of massive businesses and see what you learn from them.
I call this entrepreneur porn.
In the moment, reading those books feels great but afterwards, you don’t really learn anything transferable.
The best thing to do is find people who are 1 step ahead of you.
If you’re at 10k, don’t ask the person who built a 10m business. Ask the 100k a month person.
If at 100k, don’t ask the 100m person, ask the 1m person.
The conversation may be very tactical and not super inspirational.
But trust me you’d get better results.
Why you should stop listening to your body:
Make it stand out
Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
From “How to Sell yourself” - By Joe Girard.
This man is in the Guinness World Records as having sold the most cars ever (mental!)
This excerpt will make you reassess how you think about what you do everyday.
It’s so easy to just do things because your body tells you to.
Ask yourself when faced with a decision... is my mind doing this or is my body doing this?
That’s all for today. If this helps at least one person then it’s done its job.
Keep winning,
Timo
